AI Ethics Lab Fellowship

In a digital era like the 21st century, it’s inevitable that our lives are getting surrounded by algorithms, software, and countless technologies. However, few people have explored how these technologies could bring injustice and inequality to our societies. In partnership with Diversify Our Narrative, we were excited to launch AI Ethics Lab.

The goal of CreAItivity AI Ethics Lab is to educate the public more on the interdisciplinary field between technology and social justice. Students will be provided with the resources to learn about topics such as algorithmic bias, data privacy, etc, and deliver a final solution to solve the issues they identified.

Previous Fellowships

Fellows will work in 4-6 member cohorts to learn, discuss, and attend workshops. At the end of the 2 months period, each cohort will present a final deliverable, during which members of the first-place team will win prizes.

The time commitment is 2-3 hours for cohort members and 3-4 hours for cohort leaders.

Who We're Looking For

  • Self-starters, demonstrate initiative without a lot of guidance

  • Passionate about AI and ethics, and willing to learn and try out new things

  • Good communicators and team players

  • Cohort leaders should preferably have some level of experience in technology, social justice, and related fields, though not required

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can participate?

Everyone between the ages of 13-21 can participate in the AI Ethics Lab, for those who are under 18, parental consent is required.

How is our cohort determined?

Each cohort of the AI Ethics Lab will be between 4-6 people. Teams will be created by CreAItivity staff. Participants don’t need to already have a team, although they could specify who they want to work with.

What prior knowledge do I need?

Fellows do NOT need any prior knowledge in CS/AI; eagerness to learn and to make an impact is a must.

What do cohort leaders do?

Each cohort will have a cohort leader, who will be predetermined by CreAItivity. Cohort leaders are in charge of overseeing and guiding their groups and will check in with CreAItivity staff monthly. Although not required, cohort leaders should preferably have some experience in technology and/or social justice.

What do I have to do in cohorts?

Cohorts have to meet at least twice every month to discuss and work on their final deliverable. If the cohorts want to, they could meet more than twice (but no less). There will also be weekly workshops that every cohort member has to attend.

What will happen in the end?

By the end of the AI Ethics Lab, each cohort will have a final deliverable (could be a prototype, a document, a website, etc) which they will present to CreAItivity. Fellows in the first place cohort will get prizes (including but not limited to gift cards, polaroids, Amazon Echos, Beats headphones, etc.)
